Connection URL

https://www.gale.finance/mcp
  • Free, read-only, and no account or API key.
  • Streamable HTTP transport (stateless). Use the URL above in any client that supports remote MCP servers.
  • Data updates with each site release. Every answer states the date its data runs through.

Setup by client

Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)

  1. Open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Gale Finance and paste https://www.gale.finance/mcp as the URL.
  3. Leave authentication empty, save, and enable the connector in a chat from the tools menu.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner may need to add the connector for the organization first.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http gale-finance https://www.gale.finance/mcp

Cursor

Use the Add to Cursor link, or add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "gale-finance": {
      "url": "https://www.gale.finance/mcp"
    }
  }
}

VS Code

Use the Add to VS Code link, or run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette, or add this to .vscode/mcp.json:

{
  "servers": {
    "gale-finance": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://www.gale.finance/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Other MCP clients

Most clients accept a remote server entry like this one. Some name the transport streamable-http instead of http.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "gale-finance": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://www.gale.finance/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Tools

Five read-only tools, shaped around the questions people ask. Metrics and windows are parameters, so one tool covers many metrics.

get_risk_return_metrics

Risk and return metrics for an asset

Return, CAGR, volatility, Sharpe, Sortino and max drawdown on the 1Y window and the long window (5Y or since inception).

Example: “What's the Sortino ratio of gold?”

get_downside_risk

Downside and tail risk for an asset

Daily 5% VaR, expected shortfall, skew, excess kurtosis, the largest drawdowns with recovery dates, and best/worst day.

Example: “What are the tail risks for bitcoin?”

compare_assets

Compare two assets' performance and risk

Uses the published 1Y compare page, a calendar-year page, or the long-term scorecard. If Gale has no page for the pair, it shows each asset’s own metrics side by side and says so.

Example: “How has gold performed vs bitcoin historically?”

rank_assets_by_metric

Rank assets by a risk or return metric

Ranks covered assets by one published metric, optionally by asset type, with each value’s window and page.

Example: “Which crypto had the best Sharpe ratio over the last year?”

find_assets

Find assets Gale covers

Searches coverage by ticker or name and lists each asset’s page, pair comparisons, calendar-year pages and scorecards.

Example: “Does Gale cover Hyperliquid?”

Questions to try

  • What's the Sortino ratio of gold, and how is Gale calculating it?
  • What are the tail risks for bitcoin? Include its worst drawdowns.
  • How has gold performed against bitcoin year by year?
  • Compare Nvidia and AMD over the last year.
  • Which crypto assets had the best Sharpe ratio over the past year?
  • Does Gale cover Hyperliquid, and which comparisons does it have?

What answers contain

  • A quotable first sentence built from the published figures, for example: “Over the 1Y window to 2026-05-11, Bitcoin (BTC) had a return of -22.3% … according to Gale Finance.”
  • The figures with units and window dates, plus a one-line note on how Gale computes each metric and a link to its glossary entry.
  • A source line with the data-through date and the canonical Gale page, so the assistant can cite it.
  • Structured data for clients that read tool output as JSON.

What it does not serve

The server returns computed metrics only. It does not return prices or price levels, OHLC data, price or performance series, chart data, or “what if you had invested” values, and it never computes new figures on request. If Gale has not published a comparison for two assets, the answer says so instead of estimating pair figures such as correlation.

Calculations follow the Gale methodology. Answers are educational data, not investment advice, and are covered by the Terms of Use. What the server logs is described in the Privacy Policy.
